Purpose of the Job
The SBA Underwriter I is responsible for fulfilling the credit administration function for Truliant's SBA lending group, including underwriting both SBA and traditional commercial loan requests and preparing SBA loan packages for SBA and Member Business Loan Committee approval.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Underwrites SBA loan requests, including analyzing historical financial information and business / personal credit histories.
- Applies knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), loan eligibility requirements, and underwriting techniques to evaluate loan applications for SBA program eligibility, accuracy, and completeness.
- Creates financial projections.
- Creates credit files that conform to SBA SOP manual procedures.
- Generates comparison of borrower data to industry trends.
- Generates credit memos for loan approvals / loan recommendations.
- Generates presentations for larger loan requests to SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.
- Prepares annual credit reviews.
- Updates reports that track annual review relationships and tracks receipt of financials.
- Assists with ongoing development / revisions of business loan policies and procedures as needed.
- Assists with credit analysis for special asset relationships and works out strategies.
- Assists with SBA loan portfolio quality management.
- Serves in a backup capacity to review commercial real estate appraisals and EDRs when needed.
- Acts as resource for Business Lending Credit Theory to other Credit Union staff.
- Provides accuracy review for all SBA loan documentation.
