The Quality Assurance/Food Safety Supervisor coordinates, and executes food safety and quality assurance programs designed to ensure quality production of food products consistent with food safety standards, government regulations, and industry practices including GMP, SQF and HACCP.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties
- Assists all third party and FDA audit activities and maintaining compliance with audit results and requirements.
- Maintains food safety objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
- Decides whether to accept a product or continue business with a vendor based on a review by the quality assurance staff.
- Collaborate with food safety and SQF system at the manufacturing and GMP program at the distribution facilities.
- Ensures that implementation of new regulations are quickly and accurately implemented at all facilities and suppliers.
- Verifies changes to the food safety fundamentals and food safety plans that have an impact on the supplier's ability to deliver safe food.
- Supervises and provides support to the quality assurance techs at the manufacturing facilities.
- Reviews all data obtained during all quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
- Audits the manufacturing and distribution facilities to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Company requirements and standards.
- Supervises workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
- Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
- Helps implement sanitation and quality assurance training programs to staff.
- Supports and provides input for learning and development needs of manufacturing employees to establish robust food safety culture at the manufacturing facilities.
- Assists in the investigation of customer complaints regarding food safety and quality. Work on root cause, corrective actions and preventive actions. Provides feedback to customer.
- Verifies HACCP record keeping and address any deviation.

- Supervise sanitation staff and improve sanitation program SSOP's.

- This job will have periodic access to confidential data including financial statements, company records and/or minutes, and company plans, designs, and/or programs.
- Directly supervises non-supervisory employees in the Quality Assurance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to read and understand English.
Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an adequate knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Food Science of similar field of study from four-year college or university; and three years related experience and/or training in food safety, quality, microbiology, chemistry, or similar field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- HACCP, SQF, and Food Safety Professional Certifications are strongly preferred, and may be required at certain locations.
- Experience using Micro-testing equipment.
Physical Demands
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
- Work is performed in a comfortable office environment and disruptions occur frequently.
- Able to work different shifts as need it.
- The noise level in the warehouse/work environment is usually moderate.
- The employee may be required to travel up to 10% of the time.
