Job Description
Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential. LI is seeking to hire a full time Dean of Students to start on July 1, 2025. Job Summary: Reporting to the Head of School and working collaboratively with various Department Heads, the Dean of Students (DOS) shares responsibility for ensuring a positive school culture that is consistent with the mission and values of Lyndon Institute. The DOS participates in planning, goal setting, decision-making, policy formulation, staff supervision, and crisis management; shares responsibility for establishing, communicating, and implementing student discipline policies and behavioral expectations. Duties, Responsibilities and Specific Requirements: -Be a consistent, positive presence in the lives of LI students. -Actively promote a positive student culture of engagement through policy and personal interactions. -Develop and implement proactive strategies to support overall student wellbeing, consistent with the mission and values of LI. -Manage and implement student discipline and disciplinary procedures. -Communicate and partner with families in support of student discipline. -Maintains accurate records of student discipline and attendance. -Develop and implement advisor/advisee curriculum that supports the students, school culture, faculty needs, and is consistent with Lyndon Institute's mission. -Oversee the enforcement of LI's Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying policies (HHB) -Serve as the Grievance Officer for Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing of students -Provide logistical support for some all-school events -Collaborate with the Head of School in the annual revision and publication of the Student Handbook. -Attend outside professional meetings or conferences yearly to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of student discipline practices and student leadership programs. -Coordinate all Campus Life Department meetings and attend weekly EST meetings -Serves as a member of LI's Leadership Team. -Support the Boarding students' cultural events. -Manage and plan the budget for the Campus Life Office. -Supervise staff in the Campus Life office. -Partner with the Academic Dean's office on community service for LI students. -Partner with the Academic Dean's office to enhance education through the development of policies and programs which promote the personal growth and development of students. -Other duties as assigned. Candidate Requirements: -A minimum of a bachelor's degree or relative work experience in a similar field that demonstrates success in working with a range of students and colleagues, as well as successful experience teaching, advising, or counseling high school students. -Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders. -Successful track record managing teams. -Demonstrates patience, a sense of humor, and the ability to see the best in others. -Outstanding interpersonal skills. -Understands the importance of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality. -Attention to detail. -Strong written and oral communication skills. -Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks by volume, urgency, etc. -Strong work ethic and high level of integrity. -High energy, flexibility, and enthusiasm about working in an academic atmosphere.
