UH Truman Medical Center is located in the Health Sciences District of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. UH 1 is UH’s beautiful specialty outpatient clinics and day-surgery center and UH 2 is the location for all of our primary care and women’s care clinics.

UH Lakewood Medical Center is located between Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, offering residents of Eastern Jackson County access to a modern community hospital with a continuum of outpatient services designed to meet the needs of families. UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care. It also is home to a 188-bed, fully accredited long-term care center.

UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area’s largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Crossroads Building , located in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.

Job Description

The Healthcare Navigator is responsible for the coordination of healthcare services through interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Primary focus is on engaging new patients into OBGYN services within the organization. This includes scheduling and managing appointments, greeting and guiding patients to the appropriate area of care and / or service, helping patients to understand billing information, and working collaboratively with the organization and University Health clinical / non-clinical personnel to identify barriers and find solutions to create a seamless experience for patients. Position demands a highly customer service oriented professional to communicate with patients requesting services within the organization with the goal of capturing referrals, exceeding the expectations of the customer and promoting advocacy through effective relationship management. A fundamental role of this position is working to build and sustain strong relationships with physicians and support staff throughout the organization to accommodate patient requests and grow patient volumes. Another key role of the Health Navigator is to serve as a public liaison for the program; attending community events to promote the service of the Healthcare Navigator, build relationships and register new patients. As directed, serves as a backup and resource for the clinical driven revenue cycle scheduling education and quality program.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience

Outgoing personality and excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to acquire and maintain strong knowledge of resources and services within the organization, University Health and community health related organizations.

Ability to present a calm, professional demeanor in a demanding, high stress environment, consistently demonstrating good judgment and superior customer service and problem solving skills. Handle patient issues with tact and confidentiality

Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work with a wide range of people from diverse cultural, socio-economic and professional backgrounds. Autonomous self-starter and team-player

Expert ability to navigate and use scheduling software, and interpret billing information

Ability to use Excel worksheets or other database to document contacts / referrals and create reports of activities.

Professional appearance and ability to represent the organization and / or University Health in a way that increases patient satisfaction

Preferred Qualifications

Background in health care, sales, hospitality, or customer service

Ability to show proven success in creating and maintaining relationships with a positive outcome

Proven ability to problem-solve to create positive outcomes
