Position Information Position Title Academic Advisor Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Student Success in the Center for Academic Excellence, this role will perform a variety of advising, programming, and administrative functions to assist in the daily operations and goals of the Center for Academic Excellence, including targeted advising of pre-law students. Academic advisors play a vital role in guiding students through critical academic and career decisions. Key Duties
- Maintain a primary advising load of approximately new freshmen, including the pre-law student population.
- Provide individualized guidance to students on course selections and long-term academic planning, including student registration, connecting students to campus resources, and introducing students to profession-based experiences to support the selected major.
- Counsel students about campus resources, co-curricular activities, and resources necessary to support students’ professional and personal interests.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, including in-person, phone, and virtual visits.
- Provide holistic support for all students, including primary advisees, walk-ins, and prospective Truman students.
- Participate in campus-wide student success and recruitment initiatives, including Truman Experience Weekend, Summer Orientation, and Admitted Student Event.
- Serve as a Bounce Back Coach to students in the Bounce Back Program, providing weekly coaching sessions to address student needs and barriers to success.
- Serve on appropriate committees and represent department at campus-wide events, and participate in ongoing professional development.
