Position Information Position Title Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders (Fall 5) Job Responsibilities The School of Business and Professional Studies and the Communication Disorders Department invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position in Communication Disorders to begin August 5.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology. Area of expertise is open, although ability to teach in the areas of fluency disorders or child language is desired. There is potential for a successful candidate to develop a collaborative relationship with the new Greenwood Autism Center. All Truman Communication Disorders (CMDS) full-time faculty perform clinical supervision, which is included in course load calculation. Scholarly activity and output appropriate to rank is expected, consistent with the teacher-scholar model. Additional duties may include advising, mentoring of students in research and other experiences, and service to the university and community. The CMDS MA program runs year-round, requiring at least part-time clinical supervision duties in the summer of most academic years. Faculty providing summer supervision will receive corresponding summer compensation.

The Department : The Communication Disorders department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in communication disorders. The department currently enrolls approximately students. Academically talented students from around the region make up the student body. About % of CMDS majors go on to graduate study. Graduates are admitted to top graduate programs around the country. Graduate students for the past 3 years have maintained a % pass rate on the Praxis exam.

The Communication Disorders department, faculty offices, clinic and classroom facilities are housed in the Health Sciences building. The Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic operates all year round, serving a wide range of clients from a -mile radius (7 therapy rooms, audiology suite, labs, Rite Care / Truman Early Literacy Lab). State of the art resources are available for clinic and classroom instruction, including digital video recording of therapy rooms and classrooms.

  • A completed or in communication disorders or closely related area Neurophysiology, Literacy, Health Professions). ABD candidates will be considered, but doctorate must be completed before the second year of appointment.
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language-Pathology
  • Eligibility for unrestricted licensure as a speech-language pathologist in Missouri
  • Evidence and / or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in Communication Disorders
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Evidence of commitment to the liberal arts and sciences Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses within the department
  • Evidence of or demonstrated potential for mentoring students in transformative learning experiences such as undergraduate and graduate research, service-learning, study abroad, and clinical practicum;
  • Evidence and / or demonstrated potential for developing critical thinking and problem solving skills in undergraduate and graduate students
