Position Information Position Title Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Counseling Job Responsibilities The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University—Missouri’s only public liberal arts and sciences university—seeks an energetic Assistant professor with a strong professional counselor identity to join our dynamic team as we effectuate a fully online master’s program with specializations in school, clinical mental health, and rehabilitation counseling. The School invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Counseling to start in Fall 5. Summer teaching is available based on funding and faculty interest. Responsibilities : Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to : (1) teaching courses in CACREP core and specialty areas in an online format; (2) providing clinical supervision to master’s level students; (3) advising and mentoring students; (4) producing a focused line of research leading to professional presentations, publications in refereed journals, and extramural funding; (5) working collaboratively with Counseling program faculty members to meet accreditation and the ongoing needs of the program; (6) participating actively in professional counseling organizations and in departmental, school, and university governance. Initial duties may vary in order of priority based on the needs of the program.

Rank and Benefits : This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Given the modality of program delivery, the University is open to remote work arrangements with periodic visits to the campus. Specific terms for location of work and frequency of campus visits are open to negotiation at the time of hire. The Program : The Master of Arts in Counseling at Truman State University strives to equip caring, committed, competent, and culturally aware individuals with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required to become professional counselors in school and community settings. Students may either focus on a Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization, geared toward community-based work as Licensed Professional Counselors, a School Counseling specialization, geared toward meeting the academic, career, and personal / social needs of culturally diverse students in the elementary, middle, and second schools as Certified / Licensed School Counselors, or a Rehabilitation Counseling specialization, geared toward providing rehabilitation and vocational services for clients with disabilities as Certified Rehabilitation Counselors.The program focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions involved in becoming a reflective practitioner in the art and science of counseling. To assist counselors-in-training in this process, particular attention is given to the counseling relationship; cultural awareness; skill development; ethical and reflective practice; and wellness, prevention, and intervention. Each specialization provides focused study on issues germane to that area of practice within the counseling profession. Students in the Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling degree plans complete the necessary curricular and experiential requirements to pursue entry-level licensure or certification.   • An earned doctoral degree in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 3; ABD will be considered if degree conferred before August , 5
  • A state-issued license or certificate related to a counseling specialty area
  • Commitment to teaching, supervision, scholarly activity, and service
  • Commitment to the liberal arts and science mission of Truman State University Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years clinical experience as a fully licensed / certified counselor in school, rehabilitation, or community settings
  • Counseling supervision credentials and experience
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, supported by teaching evaluations or other documentation
  • Commitment to diversity and experience with diverse populations
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of individual and collaborative institutional service
  • Knowledge and experience with CACREP accreditation requirements
  • Experience developing and teaching in online counseling programs
  • Experience teaching counseling courses
  • Active involvement in the counseling profession, as evidenced by sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations, professional development and activities, and scholarly activity in the form of professional publications and presentations
  • Experience advising graduate students
  • Demonstrated potential for leadership and advocacy in rehabilitation, clinical mental health, or school counseling
