SUMMARY: Under general direction, coordinates activities of all afternoon custodial staff engaged in cleaning and maintaining premises for County buildings by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
35% Performs duties of workers supervised, such as sweeps, mops, dusts, strips floors, washes walls, operates high speed buffer, stripper, scrubber, and wet/dry vac; buffs, waxes, shampoos facilities’ floors.
35% Assigns and coordinates work activities of custodial staff and advises and instructs staff on procedures; trains new employees in proper work procedures; assists in preparing requisition forms to order custodial supplies and equipment with purchasing staff; evaluates efficiency of cleaning materials and equipment.
30% Inspects completed work for conformance to standards. Reviews documentation charts on units to monitor work progress. Detects need for additional cleaning and submits reports to Facilities Supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises custodial workers. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; assists the Facilities Supervisor with addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED or equivalent; Three years direct supervisory experience, five years custodial or equivalent experience OR any equivalent combination of supervisory and custodial experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
A valid driver license is required.
