A Perfect Position for the Experienced Educator
The Trumbull Nature and Arts Center is seeking an enthusiastic part-time Environmental-STEM instructor to join our team!
About the Role
- Teach elementary school children during fun, hands-on, science curriculum-based field trips at our Center or in local schools, or other outside venues, during the school year.
- Instruct outdoor nature fun programs in the summer, and occasional weekends.
- Opportunity to provide engaging instruction to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and birthday party attendees.
We are seeking a candidate with
- Bachelor's degree in environmental education, elementary education, or a related field. May accept relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience working with children, ideally in an educational setting.
- The ability to identify and interpret local flora and fauna, including invasive species, and to share that knowledge with age groups ranging from toddlers to seniors.
- A passion and understanding of the environment and sustainability, and the ability to clearly explain scientific concepts at an age appropriate level..
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
- Ability to plan and implement engaging and age-appropriate educational programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work with diverse audiences and in various settings.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A background check is required.
Highly desirable:
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
- Familiarity with the Trumbull, CT and Bridgeport, CT school districts
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working for a nature center
- Proficiency in using computers and other relevant technology.
Physical requirements:
- Essential functions of the job include: the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, navigate uneven terrain, lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, and climb stairs.
