As a Mortgage Loan Processor, you will play a pivotal role in helping our members achieve their financial goals by securing the funding they need for a place to call home. In this dynamic and fast-paced position, you’ll work behind the scenes to see mortgage and home equity loan applications from start to finish, ensuring each loan is processed with precision and attention to detail. You will support mortgage loan officers in maintaining organized loan files, resolving issues, handling clerical tasks, and coordinating with external vendors for title work, appraisals, and credit report reviews all while adhering to industry regulations and upholding the credit union's high standards of service and compliance.
This is a full-time, nonexempt position expected to work 40 hours per week primarily at our Main Office in Ishpeming but may be required to work in our Marquette branch as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the mortgage lending team in processing mortgage and home equity loan applications in compliance with credit union policies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Provide all applicable disclosures for both fixed- and variable-rate loans.
- Calculate closing costs and provide a loan estimate for closing costs, interest rates, and payments to members.
- Order and check credit reports to identify credit worthiness of applicant based on industry standards for collateral/equity value.
- Request flood certification to identify if the property is or is not in a flood zone.
- Monitor loan application progress, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected, and coordinating with necessary third parties like appraisers and title companies to facilitate the loan process.
- Discharge mortgages and loans to zero.
- Prepare and organize loan files, ensuring all required documentation is correctly filed and easily accessible for review.
- Assist mortgage loan officers by providing administrative support, preparing loan packages, and resolving any processing issues that may arise during the application process.
- Preparing closing packages, researching and resolving all items in the closing package to ensure closing processes are on-time and documentation is complete and accurate.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of lending practices, regulations, etc.
- Knowledge of secondary market requirements
- Strong critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
- Ability to accurately and efficiently perform required computer tasks including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and other web-based applications
- Maintain a positive attitude and work proactively and collaboratively with others at all levels of the organization.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma
Minimum Experience: One year of experience in an office or business environment, where strong organizational and administrative skills were developed.
