Job Description

Job Description

The intensive in-home counselor is responsible for addressing the clinical needs of the child and family. It is expected that the clinical staff will have the appropriate skills, training, and supervision to accomplish this responsibility. Provide high-quality, effective community-based treatment to the youth, adults, and families who are experiencing significant behavioral and / or mental health difficulties in their home and community. Also provide services with a strength-based, wrap-around approach to prevent individuals from being removed from their homes and communities to a more restricted treatment facility. The treatment and therapeutic activities involve individual and family counseling.

During individual counseling, the counselor will work on specific problems, discussing feelings and issues in a confidential and supportive environment. During family counseling, the counselor will address communication problems and assist in setting realistic goals for life. The counselor unites concepts and methods from family therapy and mental health treatment. The counselor will provide services with a strength-based, wrap-around approach to prevent individuals from being removed from their homes and communities to a more restrictive treatment facility. Providing limited services to the child and family that do not address all of their clinical needs is not acceptable. If the services are outside the scope of intensive in-home services, an appropriate referral should be made. When therapy is required to address the clinical issues, the intensive in-home program is responsible for either providing therapy or arranging for an outside therapist.

All therapy must be provided by an LMHP or License Eligible (as defined by Registration of Supervision with the appropriate Licensing Board) Provider. The intensive in-home program is not expected to directly provide psychiatric evaluation and medication. The program is responsible for facilitating a referral if the child’s clinical needs require psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
