TITLE OF JOB: Social Worker (LBSW)
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New Mexico NMPED Licensure for Social Work
LBSW - Valid social work license issued by the NM Social Work
Examiners Board
Bachelors Level, pursuing Masters preferred
REPORTS TO: Special Education Director, Principals
JOB GOAL: To help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems
interfering with their adjustment to school and their capacity to
enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide supervision and mentorship to social work interns/colleagues.
- Obtain referrals of homeless and Title I students in the T or C Schools from community organizations and shelters to make determinations of children who qualify for homeless services.
- Communicate with parents, school personnel, physicians, clients and other agencies regarding social concerns effecting students receiving services.
- Make home visits to the students who are receiving services if needed.
- Provide basic school supplies, clothing and hygiene products as necessary to help promote academic progress.
- Provide referral services to community agencies that assist families with unmet needs including emergency shelter, medical, and mental health services.
- Compile and maintain statistical and educational information for reports to national and state funding agents as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and agencies that can provide additional supports to students and families.
- Engage with families to ensure they are involved in their child’s education and aware of available resources.
- Provide services, as required, to student to address the social, emotional and academic needs of students.
- Provide crisis intervention by responding to and managing crisis in the educational setting (suicidal, homicidal ideation, abuse, or severe behavioral incidents).
- Complete threat assessments as needed.
- Monitor student progress and adjust supports and plans as needed, ensuring effective support.
- Create and write appropriate IEP goals to ensure benefit from Sped. Services as needed.
- Work with trans-disciplinary teams to develop and implement intervention strategies and IEP goals.
- Participate in the development and review of service plans for students (safety plans, SAT, 504, IEPs).
- Provide training to staff, parents, and students on topics related to student mental health and well being as needed.
- Maintain monthly service logs.
- Maintain Medicaid notes and billing.
- Stay current with best practices in social work and education through professional
development opportunities.
- Ensure all practices comply with local, state and federal laws, as well as professional ethical standards.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly.
EVALUATION:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary is established by salary schedule.
