JOB DESCRIPTION: Health Director
We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic, dedicated, certified EMT or Registered Nurse who can oversee the health and well being of the children at our academic summer enrichment program, TryEngineering Summer Institute.
TryEngineering Summer Institute is a co-ed residential engineering summer program for rising 9th through 12th grade students held at premier colleges and universities across the USA. The Health Director is in charge of administering medication, first aid if needed, monitoring each student, and organizing all of the medical records of the staff and students. We require all summer camps to have a Registered Nurse or EMT on site at all times. The Health Director must ensure the implementation of all medical and safety rules and policies of the program- they play a vital role in the success of the program! Our Health Directors live in the dorms, and have all meals provided throughout the duration of the program and staff training.
Health Directors are responsible for the students safety 24/7.

Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate with parents to ensure all health forms are filled out PRIOR to the students arrival
- Educating all program staff about the medical conditions of each student and how to assist them
- Being knowledgeable of the campus procedures in the event of an emergency
- Know the location of the nearest hospital, ER, Urgent Care Clinic, etc.
- Administering appropriate medications and appropriate dosage to students per their health files
- Communicating with parents any and all medical issues their student encounters
- Keeping organized records of all medical incidents
Focused hours for the Health Director:
- Opening day is check-in day and it is an ‘all hands on deck’ day 9am-8pm, Parents will come to check in their medicine with you and go over special circumstances.
- Last day of the session, students attend a closing ceremony and pack up and leave camp by 12pm. You are responsible for returning any leftover meds, etc to the parents before the student checks out. Staff will wrap up any outstanding duties to prepare for the next session to arrive
- There will be 2 days between sessions that you and the staff will have off. No campers will be on campus.
- A little about field trips: There are field trips to local sites, the Health director is required to accompany the class in case of emergency.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree a plus
- An up to date RN Certificate or EMT Certification is required.
- First Aid / CPR certified (we will have a certification session as well)
- Drivers License with clean driving record
- Experience working with pre-university students (middle school and high school aged children) in a camp setting
- Skilled in current technology
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Well organized and knows how to multitask
- Energetic and creative individual
- Attend mandatory Director’s training before camp (Date TBA in May/June)
- Be able to live in the dorms throughout the duration of the program and staff training (All meals and housing is provided)
- Background check. We will conduct a full background check on each staff member
- US Citizen. This program can only employ US citizens or those authorized to work.
Preferred:
- Having attended any kind of summer camp or program.
- Previous experience as Camp Director or Assistant Director is a plus.
Compensation:
Job Type: Contract
: $3,500.00
you’ll stay in a dorm room with air conditioning and get the same meals our students get, often in the campus dining hall, or perhaps on a field trip for a bag lunch.
