Position Title: Director of Surgical Services
Department: Surgical Services
Employment Status: Full-Time
Job Summary: The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the surgical services department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and managing the financial and administrative aspects of the department. This role involves collaborating with physicians, medical staff, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The Director of Surgical Services will work closely with the executive team to achieve the organization's goals and objectives.
Supervisor: Chief of Ancillary & Surgical Services
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management:
- Direct, manage and coordinate entire episode of care inclusive of scheduling, Operating Rooms, Pre and Post Anesthesia, nursing staff, and discharge planning and follow-up care.
- Maximize OR capacity and block utilization to enhance productivity and minimize downtime
- Remove barriers that may prevent expansion and growth
- Participate in ASC business development activities
- Monitor and maintain performance practice standards with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that defined targets and performance standards are met
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards including state and federal regulations.
- Prepare for and participate in Accreditation surveys (AAAHC, Joint Commission, etc.)
- Implement, monitor, and enforce operational policies and procedures.
- Ensure high standards of patient care and satisfaction.
- Address patient complaints promptly.
- Review financial statements monthly, make appropriate recommendations/changes, to improve overall performance of the department.
- Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute strategic plans.
- Attend regular meetings at various times, occasionally outside of normal business hours
- Identify opportunities for growth and expansion for the organization, self, and subordinates.
- Analyze operational data to drive decision-making and make recommendations to leadership.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives.
- Oversee Hospital Partnerships.
- Leadership and Supervision:
- Manage and mentor Directors of Nursing and Hospital Directors.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Develop and implement staff training programs.
- Develop and implement career progression ladders.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent experience in related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in healthcare administration or a similar role.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
