Description
SUMMARY
Assists Mechanic in overhauling and maintaining diesel, electric , propane and gas motors used to operate trucks, and other equipment. Performs general maintenance and repair of mobile equipment in order to provide the required equipment to the manufacturing operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Disassembles motor and transmissions.
Changes starters and alternators.
Assists mechanic in motor reassembly.
Removes and installs tires on trucks and heavy equipment.
Repairs hydraulics system.
Performs road tests as directed by Supervisor.
Lubricates moving parts and drives units to verify conformance to specifications.
Completes necessary paperwork such as work orders, preventive maintenance, and daily work reports.
Operate steam cleaner to clean parts, engines, or complete units.
Performs housekeeping, including cleaning up oil spills and keeping areas organized.
Cleans tools and working area at the end of the work shift.
Performs preventive maintenance on mobile equipment.
Paints units and performs body repairs.
Assists mechanics with different types of repairs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Two years of experience or combination of experience and education equal to four years of High school.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with supervisor and management.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing normal duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee must climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required, include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception to read instruments, operate material handling equipment and identify plant color code system. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The noise level in this work environment requires hearing protection.
