POSITION SUMMARY
The Host/Hostess serves as the welcoming face of our restaurant, setting the tone for a friendly, top-notch dining experience. This role involves greeting guests as they arrive, providing wait time estimates, managing a waitlist, inputting guest information into our system, guiding guests to their tables, and offering a warm goodbye as they depart.
As part of a dynamic team, the Host/Hostess may also handle phone inquiries and assist with takeout orders during busy periods.
This role is critical to the restaurant’s success, making it one of the most vital positions we offer!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Warmly welcome arriving guests with a smile and eye contact, escort them to their table (dining room or bar based on preference), provide menus, and introduce their server.
- Communicate effectively with guests and staff to ensure a seamless transition to the service team.
- Answer phone calls and respond to guest inquiries with professionalism.
- Coordinate the flow of guests into dining and bar areas, offering accurate wait time updates when needed.
- Address any special guest requests or needs with care and attention.
- Stay attentive to guests’ needs during their visit (e.g., spotting when a drink needs refilling and coordinating with staff to handle it).
- Follow safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations to ensure a secure environment.
- Support the dining team by assisting with tasks like clearing tables, refilling water, or delivering drinks.
- Process takeout orders, including verifying items, calculating totals (with taxes), and handling payments via cash, credit, or check.
- Pitch in wherever needed to keep the team running smoothly.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read and explain menu items clearly.
- Strong verbal communication skills to greet guests, say farewells, and relay requests to team members.
- Good hearing to manage phone calls and guest needs in a noisy setting.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for an entire shift, plus reach, bend, and clean as needed.
- Capable of lifting and carrying trays or supplies weighing 10-30 lbs.
