Job Summary
At TTE Language Center, our instructors play a vital role in planning, teaching, and assessing classes based on the ESL curriculum from the New York State Department of Education (BP, with support from our Senior Instructors. They are responsible for keeping accurate student records, handling administrative tasks assigned by the Academic Director, and participating in professional development activities like workshops and meetings while mentoring other instructors.
Our mission at TTE is to help students acquire English as a second language through speaking, structured learning, and practice. The key responsibilities of our instructors include:
Teachers responsibilities:
- Helping students grow their vocabulary and improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills using our effective teaching methods.
- Creating detailed lesson plans, engaging activities, and thorough assessments.
- Evaluating students on their classroom performance and providing guidance for their improvement.
- Maintaining a classroom environment that encourages learning.
- Working together with other educators to coordinate teaching, attendance tracking, and evaluations.
- Following Center and Company policies and clearly communicating these to Associate Instructors.
- Completing necessary administrative paperwork promptly.
- Accurately keeping performance and attendance records.
- Managing Center resources and documentation effectively.
- Participating in peer observations to support professional growth and embrace constructive feedback as suggested by the Academic Director.
- Attending administrative meetings and professional development activities.
- Helping with employee evaluations through classroom observations, discussions, and performance assessments.
- Supporting new instructors as they build their skills and confidence.
- Creating and improving teaching materials to suit local needs.
- Actively engaging in classroom activities and sharing information about extracurricular opportunities when asked.
- Keeping classrooms, staff workspaces, and school areas organized and tidy.
- Covering classes during emergencies for part of the day when needed.
Education Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is essential, with a preference for ESL or Education in this field.
Experience:
A minimum of six months of ESL teaching experience is expected.
Competencies:
A strong sense of cultural awareness; adaptability; a passion for teaching international students; empathy for the challenges of learning English as a second language; and outstanding communication and organizational skills are vital.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 30 per week
