Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related healthcare field required.
Master's degree in athletic training from an accredited college required.
Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Board of Athletic Training Certification required.
First-aid and CPR Certification required.
Strong understanding of challenges athletes face, proper nutrition, sports injuries and treatment options.
Understanding of first-aid treatments, massage, physical therapy techniques and equipment.
Detail-oriented, analytical, and attentive.
Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, decision making and communication skills.

JOB GOAL
The Athletic Trainer will work with medical professionals and coaches to evaluate the condition of athletes, establish plans for diet, fitness and treatment, and track progress toward health and fitness goals. To teach basic first aid and CPR to trainees and coaching staff; to operate a system of management and maintenance of athletic medical supplies, equipment, and facilities in treatment of athletic injuries.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
Assumes responsibility for prevention, emergency care, first-aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes.
Serves as liaison between coaching staff of conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.
Serves as consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.
Assists with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and athletic trainers, identifying factors that put athletes at risk, correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
Provides emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situations and prompt and accurate triage.
Evaluates acute and chronic injuries and refers to the team physician or specialist, where appropriate, and helps decide if a player may return to competition following an injury.
Treats athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cold / heat, and hydrotherapy, as needed or prescribed with the availability of modalities.
Develops, supervises, evaluates, and modifies individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.
Maintains records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, rehabilitation progress notes and insurance information.
Secures training room equipment and supplies needed.
Provides education and supervision for athletes and students.
Covers team practices allowing access to the athletic training room.
Covers sporting events as scheduled with the athletic director.
Establishes a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual students.
Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, correspondence, and notices.
Maintains accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Attends conferences, workshops, and other professional development to maintain current knowledge of profession.
Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality.
Collaborates with school personnel to develop school-wide initiatives to make schools safer and more effective.
Make the training room facilities and medical attention available to school athletes with arrangements made by coach and Athletic Trainer.
Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an eleven (11) months exempt status position. The salary and work year will be established by the Governing Board.
