PRINCIPAL
POSITION DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold an earned degree at the Master's level.
- Hold or qualify for Principal's Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education.
- Verify three (3) years successful experience in school administration in such areas as budget
development and maintenance, class scheduling, curriculum, evaluation, personnel supervision,
staff development, fiscal planning and facilities management.
- Verify three (3) years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
- Verify ability to function in a variety of leadership and supportive roles within the school organization and the community.
- In-depth understanding of current educational instructional strategies.
- In-depth understanding of Standard-Based Education.
- Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
- Knowledgeable or experienced in using the Dine Educational Philosophy in curriculum programs.
- Experience in implementing bilingual bicultural programs.
- Experience in multicultural schools and communities.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: All personnel serving in assigned school.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILI fJJ S:
- Administers the operations of the school.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board Policies and regulations by the staff and students.
- Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Supervises the staff, providing assistance and making evaluations as per Board policy.
- Reports to District Office Administrative Officers regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies and curriculum.
- Prepares school reports for the Superintendent.
- Develops a program of public relations in order to further the community understanding and support of the educational program.
- Participates in principal's meeting and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs and the like.
- Keeps the superintendent informed of the school's activities, progress and problems.
- Assists in the screening and training of the school's professional staff.
- Approves transportation, custodial, and other support services.
- Performs other duties assigned by the school superintendent.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRINCIPAL
The Principal is responsible for the total administration of the school. Certain areas of responsibility are delegated to the Assistant Principals; final responsibility, however, rests with the Principal. He will direct particular attention to policy determination, faculty administration, public relations, office personnel, buildings and grounds, unit budget, and approval of all orders and services. He is responsible for the curriculum.
Some of the Principal's more important duties and responsibilities are:
- Administers the operations of the school.
- Organization of the school.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board Policies and Regulations by the school's staff and students.
- Development and implementation of the education program. Improvement of the curriculum and of the curriculum materials used.
- Supervises the school staff, providing assistance making evaluations as per Board policy.
- Supervision of the instructional program.
- Supervision of student accounting, records, and reports.
- Selection, retention, promotion, and assignment of the clerical and teaching personnel. Evaluation of outcomes
- Enforcement of the policies of the Board of Education and directives from the Superintendent.
- Formulation of unit policies.
- Planning, preparation, and presentation of the budget.
- Control, supervision, and approval of all budget and student activity expenditures.
- Control over all property inventories and supplies.
- Accreditation of the school to North Central Association.
- Conformance of the school to all Arizona Interscholastic Association rules and regulations.
- Has charge of scholarships and awards and college visitations.
- Process teacher absences.
