Summary:
To transfer hot fittings from elbow forge oven discharge chute to proper die to complete the forging operation.
Requires proficiency and understanding of the essential work instructions and operating and quality control procedures that govern:
Transfer hot fittings from elbow forge oven discharge chute to proper die by means of handheld tongs, forklift with attached adaptor, hydraulically activated manipulator or by using an air or electrically activated handheld boom with hand controls.
Visually check all fittings coming from oven.
Visually check parts after reforming.
Assist forge operators in all aspects of forging operation, from start up to shut down, including set up tooling and changes using forklift, overhead crane, Allen and adjustable wrenches, pliers, screw drivers, and sledgehammers.
Perform all daily maintenance and cleaning duties to keep forges in safe and good working condition.
Assist forge operator in loading pipes to be forged and aligning and tack welding them together prior to forging.
Assist forge operator in pulling parts at regular intervals for the inspection process including pounding out minor dents at the ends of hot parts in the die with sledgehammer, prepare full tubs to be removed by material handler and assisting other departments during extended down times.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work environment:
Exposure to all outside weather conditions and inside factory environment such as heat, noise, dust, smoke, and other moving equipment.
Forklifts, overhead cranes, electrically controlled handheld boom.
Continuous exposure to presses, furnaces, forklifts, cranes, heat, hot steel.
Extensive exposure to oils, grease and graphite, heat, cold, dust, dirt.
Physical demands:
Prolonged standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 65lbs for up to 10 hours shifts.
Working around furnaces running at 1500-2000 degrees Fahrenheit
Wear protective equipment including coveralls or long sleeves, gloves, hardhat, hearing protection, metatarsal steel toed boots, and safety glasses with side shields.
Required education and experience:
Mechanical experience
Forklift operation, knowledge of use of hand tools, Allen and adjustable wrenches, pliers, screw drivers and sledgehammer.
Preferred education and experience:
Previous experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Job training for this position is provided by the department.
