Our client, a global pharmaceutical company focusing on developing gene therapies for patients with rare genetic diseases, is seeking a Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to support Phenylketonuria (PKU) medical strategy in the South Central Region. The Senior MSL will play a vital role in engaging with healthcare professionals, providing scientific education, and supporting clinical development and research initiatives.
- Execute the PKU medical MSL plan and tactics within the assigned territory, ensuring alignment with scientific and business objectives.
- Provide education on PKU disease state and the company marketed and pipeline products to healthcare professionals, including physicians, dietitians, genetic counselors, and researchers.
- Serve as a scientific resource, responding to unsolicited medical questions and providing support on medical information issues.
- Engage in scientific exchange, offering insights on emerging clinical and competitive trends to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain expertise in PKU and rare genetic diseases to effectively support clinical and research initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Research, and Commercial teams while maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
- Support clinical trials by assisting with site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, and study management.
- Facilitate investigator-initiated research and assist in identifying potential clinical trial investigators.
- Participate in regional and national conferences to support scientific and medical objectives.
- Contribute to publication planning and coordinate with internal teams to meet timelines.
- Conduct internal journal clubs, stay current with scientific literature, and provide medical updates.
- Assist in sales team training through approved scientific presentations and meetings.
- Lead special projects and mentor junior team members.
- Develop and implement a professional growth plan, staying informed on global market trends and advancements in PKU treatment.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5 years of relevant clinical or industry experience.
- 3 years as an MSL is preferred.
- Experience in rare genetic diseases or PKU is highly desirable.
- Previous involvement in product launches, development, and execution is a plus.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations related to Medical Affairs and field activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated team player with leadership and project management experience.
- Ability to effectively work in a virtual and remote environment.
- Willingness to travel 40-60% for field and home office obligations (dependent on COVID-19 restrictions).
- BA/BS in Life or Health Sciences required.
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
