Position Description: A primary function of this and every other job at the “J” is to ensure by whatever rational and legal means necessary that each member, guest and visitor leave the “J” feeling just a little better than when they arrived. The Classroom Assistant Teacher functions as a support person for the Lead Teacher. Although assigned to a specific classroom, they must be willing to assist in any room as temporarily reassigned to maintain ratio. Support Faculty work around the school and assist Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers.
Position Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Classroom Lead Teacher and the ECE Director, the Classroom Assistant Teacher and Support Faculty are responsible for:
- Having a working knowledge of the mission, goals and policies of the Tucson Jewish Community Center and the Early Childhood Department.
- Insuring the overall functioning and quality of the ECE program, including the safety and welfare of all children and the safety and appropriateness of all activities.
- Acting as a representative of the ECE program and the Center; must portray professional image at all times.
- Knowing correct procedures for opening and closing a room, greeting parents and children, checking identification at pick-up, diaper changing, safety and emergency procedures and all other ECE procedures.
- Assisting in preparing assigned classroom activities- may be asked to plan and implement specific activities and work with individual children or groups of children participating in all activities including swimming, gym, music and other special activities.
- Following directions of lead teacher and/or Directors concerning appropriate practices.
- Maintaining health (including diapering and toileting) and safety standards.
- Maintaining professional relationships with parents and teachers.
- Assisting with classroom record keeping.
- Overseeing and helping with snack, lunch and cleanup.
- Continuing professional growth by participating in faculty meetings, in-services and a minimum of 18 hours of formal ECE training through workshop attendance or college classes yearly.
- Respecting confidentiality of each child, parent, faculty member and all Center issues
- Maintaining current fingerprint clearance status and TB testing.
- Maintaining open and ongoing communication with Lead Teacher and Directors and accepting additional duties or projects as designated.
Qualifications
1. Minimum of a high school diploma- some college or CDA training preferred.
2. Minimum of 6 months experience with children in a childcare atmosphere.
3. Current and valid AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.
4. Desire to continue professional growth and training in the early childhood and the ability to implement training and program goals and standards.
5. Ability to relate patiently, positively and sensitively to children, parents and other faculty members.
6. Ability to communicate and to understand and carry out written and verbal directions.
7. Display evidence of emotional maturity and stability including ability to handle difficult situations and to use supervision constructively.
8. Ability to assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom.
9. Ability to perform physical tasks associated with childcare, including but not limited to hearing and speaking, reading, swift movement, transitioning from varying indoor & outdoor locations, providing assistance by bending, lifting, crouching, carrying and/or reaching overhead.
10. Meet any additional qualifications set forth in our by our DHS licensing
