On October 14, 2024, Tuerk House contracted and opened Multnomah County’s Coordinated Care Pathway Center in Portland, Oregon. This now adds further support, evidence- based services, and care to the community's public health crisis. The Center will also help to address concerns about public safety, livability, and overall community health and well-being.

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:  

 

The Director of Medical Services will assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive medical policies and standards of care, provide leadership for the Medical Team in Deflection/Sobering Center in Portland. The Director of Medical Services is responsible for the general supervision of the medical department, as well as interaction with participating and non-participating providers to make determinations of medical necessity and appropriateness of medical services. Provide medical support and direction to all medical staff, as well as identifying and reporting quality of care issues. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Oversee clinical practices and operations of the Pathway Center, while also providing medical and administrative direction and supervision to subordinate professional, technical and clerical staff.
  • Ensures the team is providing high quality care, adheres to standards, and complies with legal/regulatory requirements including meeting accreditation standards.
  • Perform medical diagnosis and treatment as needed to patients.
  • Evaluate and review the work of subordinates or other medical providers for appropriate diagnosis, treatment and chart documentation.
  • Collaborate and work effectively with departmental staff, private physicians, clients and others healthcare providers and partners. 
  • Participate in the analysis, evaluation and planning of health or mental health programs.
  • Prepare clear and concise written and oral reports.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Conduct in-service training programs.
  • Secure State certification to supervise and direct mid-level practitioners.
  • Manage division productivity to ensure that the budget targets are met.
  • Review appropriate paperwork for documentation of clinical services and medical assessments.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations, formal and informal coaching and recommend disciplinary actions.  
  • Ensures the department’s annual compliance with CPR, PPD, Influenza and HTHU requirements.
  • Any other related duties assigned.

 

**This position requires nights and weekends, on call 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

 

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), with training in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialization required. 
  • Must have licensure from the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN). 
  • Must be Board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). PMHNP-BC preferred.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience and regulatory compliance knowledge.
  • General knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to behavioral health.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory requirements, survey and licensing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement principles, methods and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with successful implementation of clinical improvement projects at the organizational level.
  • Personal belief in recovery and the recovery process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, clients, and the public.
  • High energy, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to engage clients flexibly based on their individual needs.
  • Respect for and maintenance of professional boundaries with all individuals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency in reading, understanding, and speaking English.

 

Background: This position requires successful background and drug test completion  

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.

The compensation for this position will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus.
