POSITION OVERVIEW
The Radiology Veterinary Technician at Tufts VETS will play a crucial role in providing specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions. This position requires a strong background in veterinary medicine, exceptional technical skills, and a compassionate approach to patient care. The Radiology Veterinary Technician will assist the radiologists, performing diagnostics, administering treatments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient care.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITITES
Assist with Imaging Procedures
Support ultrasounds, CT scans, fluoroscopy, radiographs, and audits by:
- Safely restraining patients with compassion, including handling difficult or fractious patients.
- Keeping hospitalized patients clean and comfortable.
- Accurately following treatment orders and completing all imaging-related treatments.
- Alerting a lead/senior technician or veterinarian to any patient concerns.
- Maintaining aseptic technique and preventing nosocomial infections (e.g., handwashing, glove use).
- Assisting with radiographic studies while adhering to proper safety protocols.
- Preparing for procedures such as fine needle aspirates (FNA) and biopsies.
- Setting up and operating the CT machine and reconstructing studies.
- Auditing imaging fees and data entry for accuracy.
- Assisting with radiographic technique as needed.
Staff Training & Development
- Assist in training and mentoring staff members, interns, and students.
Daily Procedure Coordination
Coordinate daily procedures across all departments by:
- Reviewing the daily schedule.
- Meeting with each department to assess the urgency and timeline of procedures.
- Coordinating with the radiologist to schedule procedures.
- Helping resolve scheduling conflicts.
Technical Skills & Patient Care
Demonstrate proficiency in:
- Peripheral IV catheter placement.
- Venipuncture (jugular, cephalic, lateral saphenous, and femoral veins).
- IV, IM, and SQ injections.
- Urine collection (free catch, catheterization, cystocentesis).
- Advanced anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Sedation, patient monitoring, and recovery for ASA I-II procedures.
Laboratory & Diagnostic Support
Perform routine lab and diagnostic procedures by:
- Properly preparing, handling, and submitting specimens to external laboratories.
- Conducting in-house blood work (e.g., NOVA, Lasercyte, Catalyst, SCA2000, PCV/TS, lactate, glucometer, azostix).
- Recording lab results accurately in patient medical records and notifying veterinarians.
- Assisting veterinarians with basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Imaging Database & Administrative Duties
Manage imaging databases, including PACS, by:
- Reviewing and verifying all imaging studies daily.
- Correcting data entry errors and updating client information.
- Merging and maintaining accurate patient records.
- Copying and facilitating imaging transfers for referring veterinarians (RDVMs) and clients.
- Managing the teaching video database.
- Maintaining the follow-up sampling results database.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain and order radiology monitoring badges.
- Order department supplies.
- Perform routine machine maintenance (e.g., deleting old studies).
- Download and archive RDVM radiographs.
- Manage outsourced radiographs as needed.
- Ensure the cleanliness of all imaging suites.
- Oversee protective equipment safety protocols.
- Record and track biopsies and diagnoses.
- Maintain imaging teaching videos.
- Manage the radiologists Google calendar.
- Assist other departments as needed based on caseload and staffing requirements.
- Maintain department equipment /instruments.
- Inform the Specialty Technician Supervisor of any mechanical problems with equipment, assist with/track repairs.
- Assist radiologists and fellow technicians and assistants in all day-to-day operations as required.
- Work closely with the Specialty Technician Supervisor to continually improve and develop the Radiology Department.
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists and the rest of the radiology team to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in continuous education to stay updated with advancements in veterinary diagnostic imaging practices.
- Meet with supervisor and Clinical Services Manager regularly to review any concerns or issues.

SCHEDULE
Fulltime commitment. Shifts TBD. Schedule subject to change at managements discretion to meet the needs of the service. This position is considered essential and is therefore required to work as scheduled during inclement weather (i.e., during snowstorms)

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree in Veterinary Technology and/or Animal Science preferred
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) preferred
- Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) desirable
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2 years working in the veterinary field as a Veterinary Technician
- Prior experience working in specialty medicine preferred

CONTINUING EDUCATION
- Maintain credentialing requirements and CE each year.
- Advanced training and credentialing such as becoming a VTS is strongly encouraged.
