Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving and protecting natural landscapes, wildlife habitats, and agricultural lands for future generations, and raising awareness of the natural resources of the Tug Hill region.

The Land Trust seeks an experienced and passionate Associate Director to join its leadership team and support our efforts in land conservation, stewardship and education.

Job Summary

The Associate Director will play a key role in advancing the mission of the Land Trust by assisting in the overall management of the organization, including strategic planning, land conservation and stewardship, community outreach, fundraising, and staff supervision. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director to implement conservation initiatives, strengthen fundraising, and build strong partnerships with stakeholders.

The Associate Director may on occasion act on behalf of the Executive Director, such as during vacations, illness or other factors that keep the Executive Director from handling these tasks including staff supervision. The Associate Director may attend board and committee meetings as determined by the Executive Director and / or the Board chair. These meetings and others may require occasional night and weekend work assignments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundraising and Related Financial Management :

  • Assist in the development and execution of fundraising strategies, including grant writing, donor relations, and special events.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with THTLT’s database of donors, and maintain regular contact with active donors including visits.
  • Manage budgets for specific programs and projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Prepare and present financial reports for the board and Outreach and Development Committee relevant to fundraising activities.

2. Leadership and Management :

  • Assist the Executive Director in the overall strategic direction and management of the organization.
  • Assist the Executive Director in fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Support the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.
  • 3. Land Conservation and Stewardship :

  • Assist in the planning and execution of conservation projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to enhance land stewardship practices and community engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making recommendations for improvement.
  • 4. Community Engagement and Outreach :

  • Build and maintain relationships with local governments, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust at community events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Promote awareness of conservation issues through public speaking, educational programs, and marketing efforts.
  • Participate actively in preparing Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust communications, including assisting in writing of articles for publications.
  • 5. Board Support :

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to prepare materials for Board meetings and assist in Board member recruitment and engagement.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resource management, nonprofit management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in land conservation, nonprofit management, or a related area, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of land trust operations, conservation practices, and environmental issues.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, grant writing, and community outreach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for land conservation and a commitment to the mission of Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust.
  • Personal Transportation required for travel throughout the Tug Hill region.
