Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Black Lung Outreach Counselor to join our team. This individual will provide education, support, and assistance to individuals and families affected by coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (black lung disease). The counselor will work closely with healthcare providers, community organizations, and legal representatives to ensure patients receive comprehensive care and access to resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach to miners and their families to provide education on black lung disease, prevention, and available resources.
- Assist patients in navigating the process for black lung benefits and medical claims, including completing required documentation.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to schedule medical evaluations and follow-up care.
- Advocate for patient needs within healthcare, legal, and community systems.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and services provided, ensuring confidentiality.
- Collaborate with community organizations and participate in events to raise awareness of black lung disease.
- Stay updated on policies, programs, and legislation affecting black lung benefits.
Qualifications
- Valid MA or LPN license preferred
- Proficiency in patient care and assessment, including medical documentation
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology
