The Design Coordinator is responsible for managing and supervising the design and implementation of university projects, ensuring they align with institutional standards and goals. This position involves overseeing outside consultants in the design, furniture selection, and project budgeting for both interior and exterior projects. This position reviews consultants' work to ensure compliance with university standards for attractiveness, durability, efficiency, and fiscal and environmental responsibility.

Key responsibilities include conducting space studies, selecting and specifying furniture and materials, and developing FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) project budgets and timelines. The Design Coordinator monitors bidding, purchasing, and delivery scheduling services provided by the university's Materials Management department, ensuring these services align with project budgets and timelines.

In collaboration with stakeholders, the Design Coordinator develops standards for the selection of long-lasting furniture, finishes, and equipment. This position also provides professional consultation on design aspects of campus projects, ensuring that both interior and exterior design elements meet the university's aesthetic and functional requirements. This position reports to the Director of Interior Design.

  • Ability to identify design issues during design and construction phases of projects and provide solution to these issues.
  • Ability to perform duties at other than normal working hours and days as required by construction schedules.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to prepare and make presentations to committees, users, and other project related groups.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in the design, specification of furnishings and materials and building construction of commercial, institutional, or public building interior renovations or new construction.
  • Experience with project budgets, planning, scheduling, and monitoring projects in planning, design, and construction.
  • Ability to utilize design software programs, including Auto CADD, Adobe Creative Suite, and other computer software programs and to learn new software programs relative to design, construction, project management and rendering software knowledge.
  • Advanced degrees or certifications in design, project management, or related areas.
  • Experience in 3D rendering capabilities.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
