As part of the news and editorial staff, the Assistant Editorial Director (AED) serves as the lead editor and coordinator for Tulane Today, the university’s e-newsletter, and serves as the direct support to the Director of Editorial Content & Strategy for coordinating content for the Tulanian, the university magazine. The AED coordinates and produces content for university publications such as feature stories and short news articles, and has the ability to support editing content from the editorial writers. The AED also supports the digital construction of each edition of Tulane Today in the university’s email platform, writes and edits headlines and blurbs for content in the newsletter, and manages logistical details on the email platform back-end regarding email send lists and email deployment. In this position, the AED may also work to analyze content trends as per the university’s peer schools, recognize partnership opportunities with Tulane’s units and schools, and foster relationships with other communicators at Tulane to develop content that promotes the university’s brand.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to find, write and edit stories suitable for publication in Tulane newsletters, brochures and magazines.
- Knowledge of website content management systems, such as Drupal.
- Excellent knowledge of email marketing tools, such as Emma, with understanding of email platform technicalities and industry standard best practices.
- Knowledge of project planning, client service and communications.
- Ability to be highly organized, work well under deadline pressure, delegate responsibilities well and work effectively with internal and external groups.
- Working knowledge of Associated Press style.
- Working knowledge of various associated software systems, such as Photoshop and Google Analytics.
- Knowledge of various communication techniques, including social media.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in communication or related field.
- Five years’ experience in a field related to the writing, production and management of publications and periodicals, preferably in an academic setting.
- Extensive experience working within digital publishing and email platforms.
- Knowledge of university and higher education issues.
- Knowledge of HTML and basic coding.
- Experience with content marketing.
- Experience managing project management system, such as Airtable, with proven experience in building and maintaining processes and workflows in such systems.
