The Referral Coordinator is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and well-being as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. Residing within the Health Center for Student Care, the Referral Coordinator reports to the Operations Supervisor.
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for establishing and standardizing procedures for referral coordination and working with nurses and providers to maintain a consistently high standard of care. This position contributes substantially to the ongoing integrity of clinic operations. The Referral Coordinator serves as a backup patient representative, assisting with greeting patients and visitors upon arrival, entering and verifying insurance benefits, insurance authorizations, patient appointment scheduling, and other tasks assigned. This position serves as a backup for medical records requests as well.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills: the ability to work well with others.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient data entry skills; familiarity with electronic database management and reporting.
- Basics skills – able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly, spell correctly and transcribe accurately.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
- Familiar with EHR software.
Required Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2 years of medical office or related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in a healthcare-related field
- 3 years of experience in a medical setting.
- Experience with third-party billing and insurance.
