What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Scientist I, Bacterial Research position at Tulane University?
The RS will oversee several projects including, but not limited to: (1) Investigating the impact of tick saliva on B. burgdorferi phenotype; (2) Determining the role of ticks in Bartonella transmission; (3) Understanding the pathogenesis and response to treatment I animal models of Bartonellosis.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written• Proficiency with common laboratory equipment and techniques required
- Knowledge of various software programs for both PC and Mac systems
- Organization and supervisory skills required
Required Education and/or Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with arthropod vectors
- Prior experience with rodent models of infection
- Grant-writing skills
The TNPRC maintains Biosafety Level 3 facilities and performs work on diverse infectious agents many of which can cause serious disease in humans if standard operating procedures, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment, are not followed. Depending on agent specific risk assessments individuals may be offered, or in some cases required to have vaccinations against the relevant agents.
If this position is assigned to work in BSL3 containment areas there will be additional minimum requirements including some or all of the following:
Must pass a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins.
Ability to perform job duties while wearing respiratory protection.
Must participate in drug and alcohol program and be incompliance with TNPRC drug and alcohol policy.
