PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling and social emotional program at school assigned. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special populations students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications:
Master's degree in guidance counseling
Valid Texas counseling certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience:
Three years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
1. Plan, implement, and evaluate a developmental program of guidance, including counseling service.
2. Supervise activities of clerical, paraprofessional, and volunteer personnel.
Guidance
3. Teach the school developmental guidance curriculum.
4. Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance related curriculum.
5. Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational, career, and personal plans.
Counseling
6. Counsel individual students with their concerns.
7. Counsel small groups of students with their concerns.
8. Use accepted theories and techniques appropriate to school counseling.
Consultation
9. Consult with parents, teacher, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
Coordination
10. Coordinate with school and community personnel to bring together resource for students.
11. Use an effective referral process for assisting students and other to use special programs and services.
Assessment
12. Participate in the planning and evaluation of the district/campus group standardized testing program.
13. Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
14. Use other sources of student data appropriately for assessment purposes.
Professionalism
15. Adheres to ethical and legal standards.
16. Adheres to professional standards.
17. Adheres to district standards.
Other
18. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).
