POSITION SUMMARY
Reports to the Diversion and Cruelty Manager. Responsible for maintaining and processing daily tasks related to the daily operations of cruelty investigations in Tulsa and the surrounding areas.
This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Meet the mission and goals of Tulsa SPCA
- Drive a Tulsa SPCA vehicle and maintain cleanliness of vehicle.
- Works to write and deliver information to public to stimulate interest in animals and communicate humane philosophy to public
- Investigate complaints of animal neglect or cruelty regarding Oklahoma State animal cruelty laws, and follows up on complaints appearing to justify prosecution
- Issue summonses and assists in making arrest for violations of cruelty laws, as well as testifies in court
- Maintain investigative files and write reports
- Issue citation notices and educate if needed
- Provide information to the public pertaining to health and care and welfare of animals
- Review case files and assist Investigators in the successful conclusion of assigned cases
- Create and maintain professional relationships with other organizations, law enforcement and County/City officials
- Ensure the proper collection of evidence; ensure proper procedures are utilized when obtaining a warrant; ensure coordination of information exchanged between Tulsa SPCA and prosecutors or judges
- Train staff on the investigative process and maintaining records
- Organize and prioritize daily duties, case load and responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality with matters involving Rescue and Investigations as well as the Tulsa SPCA
- Offer guidance, advice, and expertise to other organizations and law enforcement
- Ensures that the tools and resources to complete daily duties are available
- Recommend and implement standard operating procedures
- Oversee preparation of court cases and documents; testify in court
- Recommend changes in policies and procedures
- Prepare, monitor, and work within department budget
- Supervise the care of animal held by a court order
- Complete monthly report for activities/investigations
- Help with diversion deliveries
- Assist with outreach events (may include 1 Saturday/month)
- Available to help with hoarding cases as needed
- Transport animals as needed
- Coordinate and assists in other tasks or projects as assigned; can include helping other departments.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience Required
- High School diploma or state equivalency certification required
- Must exhibit leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Motivator to build team working atmosphere and teaching or procedures, processes and concepts
- Strong interest in and commitment to animal welfare and providing a physically and mentally health environment for shelter pets
- Must be an effective and cooperative team player with other staff managers in planning and achieving goals
- Have ability to work as key player on the management team
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in a high volume for staff development preferred
- Experience with animal cruelty and animal handling preferred
- Ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a fast paced environment required
- Effective organizational, decision making, and interpersonal skills required
- Available to work varying shifts required
- Knowledge of the Oklahoma laws for animal cruelty and how to quickly assess animal conditions when investigating complaints. Minimum of 1 year of Animal Control field work experience
- Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license
SCHEDULE
FT position. Schedule can vary, shift changes will be necessary sometimes as will work on holidays and some overtime.
Salary : $18 - $18
