Senior Accountant

TUMI Genomics is a biotech company specializing in molecular pathogen detection, with a current focus on plant pathogens that impact cannabis. The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s financial records, including day-to-day bookkeeping, performing account reconciliations, generating financial reports, analyzing financial data and providing strategic financial advice to leadership. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to wear multiple hats in a fast-paced environment. 

Accounting operations

• Manage general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of all transactions
• Perform bank and account reconciliations
• Perform accounts payable and receivable processes
• Prepare journal entries and adjusting entries

Financial reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
• Maintain weekly cashflow report to facilitate decision making
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvement
• Create insightful reports for management to inform decision making

Budgeting and forecasting

• Develop annual budgets and monitor monthly in collaboration with each department
• Adjust forecasts monthly based on the actual state of the business to support planning

Internal controls

• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy
• Review and document accounting procedures

Other duties

• Assist with audit preparations by providing necessary documentation
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial data integrity
• Assist with some HR administrative tasks like payroll and benefits administration

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
• 4 years experience in accounting
• Experience in a small business highly preferred
• Proficiency in accounting software (QBO)
• Experience with Shopify and SOS preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders; comfortable implementing changes across departments
• Strong organizational skills
• Good analytical skills; able to identify trends and use this information to make strategic recommendations
• Intermediate to advanced excel skills
