Your role at Tumi:

The Assistant Merchant is a passionate, product-oriented, analytical individual who will help drive the North America Omni Channel business. This includes responsibility for both full-price and outlet stores and the e-commerce site. This person will assist the lead merchant in building and executing a unique product strategy that aligns with brand messaging and achieves financial goals.

Responsibilities:

  • This key role will support the Category Merchant in developing the regional merchandise mix to ensure all North America DTC channels including stores and e-commerce have the right products, in the right place at the right time, and to build a long-term brand strategy.
  • Optimize the specific category based on business strategies, historical analytical data, seasonal concepts, and trends to build strong assortments that maximize sales and gross margin.
  • Recap and analyze weekly sales, identify, and communicate opportunities for driving improved performance across the omni-channel business, and limit risk in season.
  • Support category by analyzing KPI’s on a monthly, quarterly, and seasonal business basis. Hindsight the business to extract future product needs and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Lead special projects and create ad hoc analysis to support the Merchandising department.
  • Collaborate with Visual on Window Rotations, Front Table changes, and overall presentation in stores.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the fleet and identify opportunities to drive location sales via store visits, online research, and consumer insights.
  • Research competitive and industry data to explain current business and anticipate new trends.
  • Maintain all files and databases pertaining to store assortments and store profiles/capacity.
  • Procure all samples for visual shoots and maintain a photo assortment library.
  • Establish working relationships with all cross-functional partners – Planning, Allocation, Product Management, E-Commerce, Visual, Store Design, and Retail Store and Operations.

  • 1-2 years of experience in a Retail Buying office or Merchandising Department.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence in articulating strategies with clear verbal and written communication.
  • Highly proficient at multi-tasking; Ability to shift between various tasks and responsibilities quickly.
  • Teamwork mindset with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
  • Thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
