What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Tecnician and Assistants position at Tumwater Eye Center?
Tumwater Eye Center is an independently owned, innovative, two doctor eye care practice where eye care is our passion. All decisions are locally made by the owners who will be your supervisors. Seeking a full time employee scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Ophthalmic Technician/Optometric Assistant initial responsibilities:
- Welcome and attend to patients needs to prepare them for their eye examination.
- Verify current glasses being worn using automated lensometer.
- Complete pretesting: Auto R/K, LipiScan, retinal imaging, Neurolens assessment.
- Complete visual fields, OCT, dark adapt testing as needed.
- Seat patient into exam room taking VA's, ICare tonometry, blood pressure.
- Perform all duties with professionalism, compassion, maintaining HIPAA laws.

- Update CrystalPM EHR of chief complaint, current medications and health history.
- Scribe for the doctor during the examination.
- Educate patient on treatments prescribed.
- Coordinate with doctor to verify and approve diagnosis and billing codes.
- Create and upload invoice for billing.
- Schedule next appointment and collect co-pay amounts in exam room.
- Work with our License Dispensing Opticians to assist patients process of optical selection.
Preferred Requirements and Personal Attributes:
- One year eye care facility experience preferred.
- A college degree and/or medical assistant certification preferred, not manditory.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of the type of eyeglass prescriptions.
- Professional appearance. Uniform medical scrubs are the norm.
- Knowledge of medical eye care diagnosis and coding.
- Ability to work with all ages and personalities.
- Ability to use discretion while working with sensitive patient information.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and computer skills.
- Ability to learn quickly through on the job experience a new computer system.
- Ability to work in a fast pace setting, good at time management.
- Self motivated, makes decisions without being told, requires minimal supervision.
- Passionate about creating a compassionate medical eye care and optical experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38 β 42 per week
