Job description
The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic teacher to join our team. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to create safe, nurturing, and engaging environments for children. The role will require planning and implementing activities that target physical, social, emotional, and cognitive developmental skills. In addition, candidates who qualify would receive director training so that they may serve as a stand in director as needed.
Duties and responsibilities
- Childcare and Supervision: Must be able to ensure the safety and well-being of all children; supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities; attend to children’s basic needs, including feeding, diaper changing, and toileting.
- Curriculum and Activity Planning: Must be able to plan and implement a variety of age appropriate activities and educational experiences; create a stimulating environment that will foster children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through play and structured activities.
- Classroom Management: Must be able to maintain a clean, organized, and child-centric classroom; guide a supportive and respectful classroom through the use of positive discipline strategies.
- Communication and Collaboration: Must be able to communicate effectively with caregivers about their child’s progress; collaborate with staff to ensure cohesion and team support; participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Must be able to maintain accurate records of children’s activities, attendance, and developmental progress; submit reports and assessments according to program policies.
- Director Role: Must complete 40 hours of director training as well as familiarize themselves with the daily operations of the director role as needed.
Qualifications
- Willing to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM-6:30 PM for at least 6.5 hours a day at your employer’s discretion.
- Bachelors of Arts in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- NY State certification.
- 2 or more years of group teaching experience for children under 6 years of age.
- Willingness to obtain NYC training requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Stamina to interact with children at their level, including sitting on the floor and engaging in physical activities
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoor
Working Conditions
Special working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events needed.
Salary : $85,000 - $95,000
