The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders, who continue to sacrifice life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.
The Foundation is seeking an experienced Employment Specialist to source employment and education opportunities for Veterans, lead and organize workshops related to job readiness, and reduce barriers to work/school success in our Atlanta Veterans’ Village.
The Employment Specialist will collect detailed documentation on progress and provide counseling to maintain employment/education as needed. Applicants must have experience in career counseling or workforce development and possess strong networking and written and verbal communication skills. They must also be comfortable with public speaking, handling sensitive information, and multi-tasking promptly.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct an initial assessment of Veteran clients’ needs to understand their interests, skills, abilities, and experiences.
- Conduct periodic re-assessments to provide resources for further training, education, or apprenticeship programs to make clients “employment-ready.”
- Counsel Veteran applicants throughout the employment process and provide individualized coaching on employment-related topics such as resume development and application submission.
- Counsel Veteran applicants through the education process and provide individualized coaching on education-related topics such as applying to school and study tips.
- Conduct vocational assessments of each employment or education opportunity to determine the educational/employment requirements.
- Ensure that all employment/education paperwork, such as applications and job offers, are accurately completed and timely.
- Collaborate and maintain relationships with local business contacts to identify employment opportunities and to serve as a dedicated point of contact between these organizations and the Atlanta Veterans Village.
- Attend job and school fairs and other networking events to source additional opportunities.
- Organize and lead workshops, trainings, and lectures on job/school readiness topics.
- Identify and maintain a database with viable employment opportunities and develop a job bank corresponding to the veteran applicants' skills and education level.
- Efficiently compile, format, and submit information regarding the program outcomes, potential applications referred, applicants on-boarded and hires to Senior Leadership.
- Work with the case management team to ensure efficient communication of opportunities and service plan progress.
- Address barriers to employment and education as they arise, e.g., by connecting Veterans to the on-site clothing store, designing and maintaining ways to gain experience on-site, and so forth.
- Conduct follow-ups with employers and candidates after referral connections and address any issues.
- Document all interactions in line with the Foundation's policies and procedures.
- Assist in Foundation Events as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in employment sourcing, recruiting, or onboarding professionals in a corporate environment.
- Prior staffing, job development, and outreach development experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with veterans or other homeless populations is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office/ Google Suite (or equivalent)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and multi-task innovatively and timely.
- Must be a team player and able to work in a collaborative environment

Working conditions
Special working conditions may include a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating in and assisting in special events.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
