The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Substitute Teacher to join our early childhood education team as needed. This role provides support in the absence of Group Teachers, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. This ideal candidate will follow lesson plans, daily routines, and foster a positive learning atmosphere.
Duties and responsibilities
- Supervise and engage children in a safe, supportive manner.
- Follow lesson plans and classroom schedules.
- Encourage children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development through play and structured activities.
- Assist with daily routines, including meals, naps, diapering, toileting, and transitions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
- Communicate effectively with staff, children, and when necessary, parents.
- Adapt to different classroom settings and age groups where needed.
Qualifications
- Willing to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM-6:30 PM for at least 6.5 hours a day at your employer’s discretion
- Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education or related field and State Department of Education certification OR
- Equivalent certification accepted by State Department of Education OR
- Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and 2 years supervised experience OR
- Health Department-approved accredited study plan to qualify within 7 years by either (A) an Associate’s (AA or AS) Degree in early childhood education, practicum included OR (B) 90 or more undergraduate college credits and one year of classroom experience teaching children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or grades one to two
- Willingness to obtain NYC training requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Stamina to interact with children at their level, including sitting on the floor and engaging in physical activities
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoor
Work Environment and Schedule
- On -call or scheduled shifts based on center needs.
- May work with infants, toddlers, or preschool age children.
- Requires standing, lifting, and engaging in active play
Working Conditions
Special working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events needed.
Pay: $150.00 - $200.00 per day
