The The R&D Regulatory Compliance Specialist makes an impact by–
- Maintains knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations, relevant standards, and developments in the field by reading appropriate policy notices and interpretations.
- Advises on current and upcoming regulatory changes and interprets the impact on Turkey Hill.
- Educates team members on key changes and makes recommendations accordingly.
- Identifies and resolves compliance issues and irregularities.
- Creates and maintains documentation files of compliance reviews.
- Develops and implements compliance improvement plans and assure ongoing compliance where applicable.
- Identifies and assesses compliance risks with current and future product development and implements mitigation strategies.
- Works cross functionally with production, procurement, quality, and sales teams on specification, compliance, and labeling related matters.
- Supports Marketing for product formula compliance validation when discussing marketing claims with 3rd party counsel.
- Guides Marketing in obtaining and properly using claims such as “Gluten-Free,” “Naturally & Artificially Flavored,” etc.
- Maintains label database including review and verification for any new or revised formulations, nutrition facts panel, ingredient labels, artwork for content, format, and inclusions.
- Liaises with other departments to review labeling/packaging documentation and make recommendations to ensure products are within FDA/FSMA guidelines for food.
- Supports regulatory inquiries from consumers.
- Participates in emergency response activities.
- Evaluates associated risk level with changes to formulation, ingredient, labeling, packaging, etc.
- Performs all duties in compliance with all corporate and regulatory quality, GLP, and safety regulations.
- Supports the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the Safe Quality Foods (SQF), Food Safety and Quality.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- B.S. in Food, Dairy, or related science field and regulatory compliance with a minimum of 2 years of experience within an R&D function in a consumer product goods (CPG) company.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate to a high degree
- High degree of organization and record keeping skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to assess associated risk in changes/claims regarding regulations/standards
- Able to apply written regulations to real life situations
- Strong understanding of dairy production processes, quality control, and regulatory requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- The employee is required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low) and manufacturing setting where noise levels can be high (PPE required).
- The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in an office or manufacturing environment from 4-8 hours.
- The employee must be able to ascend and descend stairs, and where applicable and when necessary, to perform various job-related tasks
- Must be able to position self to move, reach with arms/hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to perform various job-related tasks
- The employee must be able to inspect all job-related equipment (office or floor) to ensure it is in good working condition prior to use. Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle (or feel) to operate various types of office equipment.
- Must be able to operate all job-related equipment (powered, hand or office) as required
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and adjust focus
- Ability to lift 20 pounds and/or push/pull 20 pounds on a regular or occasional basis
