JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of an outdoor recreation facility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and operation of outdoor recreation facility.

Care for trees, shrubs, and grass.

Conduct patrols, check users of facilities for compliance and as necessary enforce laws and regulations. Conduct around-the-clock security patrols of Project facilities.

Work as entrance gate attendant, register visitors, collect fees, keep records, give out information, and assist public.

Perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical repair, sign construction and maintenance, barrier repairs, gardening, planting, facility cleanup, and trash disposal.

Operate power mowers and other equipment used in maintenance operation.

Operate power boats.

Assist in the supervision and training of temporary workers.

Serve as Chief Ranger as assigned.

Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be:

Education
Associate’s degree in park management, police science or related field. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred in outdoor recreation, natural resource management or related field. Work experience may be substituted for education requirements.

Experience
Three seasons (minimum 90 days each) in park operations, park security and/or emergency response experience.


Skills and Abilities

Interpersonal and Communication
Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Technical and Analytical
Knowledge of: principles and practices of forestry and outdoor recreation; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and equipment maintenance; hazards and safety precautions; operation of computer based word processing programs and fee collection system; and principles and practices in emergency response including accident, medical and wildland firefighting.

Administration and Operations
Ability to: perform heavy physical work.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of the following:

Appropriate California driver's license.

Current First Responder Certificate within six months from time of hire.

Completion of approved Wildland Firefighting course within six months from time of hire.

P.C. 832 certificate within one year from time of hire.

Must furnish own hand tools.

Medical Examination - This position may require a medical examination to determine medical fitness for performing the duties assigned to the position or classification.
 
Drug testing in accordance with the FHWA regulations may also be required. (Details may be obtained from the Human Resources Department upon request.)
