A large, stable private organization in the retirement benefits and financial services sector is hiring two Associate Accountants to support continued team growth. The company manages multiple long-term financial plans for its nationwide member base and is known for its excellent employee benefits, strong leadership, and long-standing industry reputation.
Position Summary
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for two detail-oriented Associate Accountants. The ideal candidates will bring hands-on experience in accounting departments, with at least one candidate expected to have a stronger background in complex billing reconciliations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain trial balances for various accounts
- Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and lockbox deposits
- Prepare and review biweekly payroll reconciliations and journal entries
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, prepaids, and payroll withholdings
- Maintain lease schedules and perform related reconciliations
- Assist with internal and external financial reporting
- Support audit preparation and complete ad hoc financial analysis and projects as needed
- Post and review journal entries for accuracy and compliance
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
- Prior experience working within an accounting department (internships not sufficient)
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and Pivot Tables
- Comfortable learning and working within custom in-house financial software
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Experience with complex billing or multi-entity reconciliation
- Familiarity with benefit plan administration or ERISA-regulated entities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with precision and professionalism in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule & Location
- On-site in Rockville, MD
- Monday through Friday (no remote option currently, may change in the future)
- In-office presence required during onboarding/training phase
