We are growing our cross-functional engineering team to tackle our next big project, a portable whole-body x-ray imaging system for use in remote locations. Specifically, we need a versatile and motivated mechanical engineer with experience in mechanical systems development and industrial design. Role/Responsibilities
- Reports to VP Engineering
- Interface with potential users and outside experts to gather information, understand product use and usability needs and concerns, then conceptualize and evaluate potential product solutions.
- Utilize a principles and processes of mechanical engineering, including: machining, molding, composites, heat transfer, x-ray physics, materials, ergonomics, electronics, and manufacturability, to design and develop innovative medical imaging products.
- Creation and revision of CAD-based components, assemblies, specifications, and drawings with appropriate materials, dimensions, and tolerances identified.
- Work with cross-functional engineering team to establish priorities, tasks, and timelines for sustaining engineering and new product development activities.
- Design and execute tests for functionality and performance then document and present results.
- Provide regular reporting on engineering activities and progress.
- Engage in all phases of product development, including problem definition, concept, requirement specification, risk analysis, design, prototype, test, failure analysis, and sustaining engineering.
- Collaborate with production partners to improve processes and design.
- Engage with suppliers to find solutions to design problems.
- Perform work and document in accordance with internal operating procedures in compliance with ISO 13485.
- Identify, generate, and document potential intellectual property opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
- BS Mechanical Engineering or similar degree with 5 years relevant experience.
- MS Mechanical Engineering or similar degree with 2 years relevant experience.
- Experience with design of electro-mechanical devices.
- Medical product development experience, including: prototyping, requirements definition, verification and validation, risk analysis, and transfer to production.
- Self-motivated and creative problem solver when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues.
- Proficient with 3D modeling software; Solidworks preferred.
