We are seeking an Employee Relations Specialist I for a position in Baton Rouge, LA. The position is responsible for conducting a fair and equitable investigation of complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including identifying appropriate witnesses, and reviewing related documents, in a timely manner. Exempt role; Takes daily direction from an Employee Relations Manager; Performs a variety of routine duties within established policies.


Essential Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience with HR certification preferred (PHR or SHRM)
  • Strong background in compliance based HR
  • Strong working knowledge of Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, state W/C, etc.
  • Excellent time management
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Ability to converse and communicate with employees at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision from the Employee Relations Supervisor/Manager
  • Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
  • Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace


Functional Requirements:

Conducting internal investigations into employee allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, unethical conduct, threats, violations to company policies and any legal matters; takes appropriate steps to investigate and works with appropriate decision makers to take prompt and effective action to end the harassment, discrimination and/or retaliation, remedy the effects, and prevent future occurrences; follows best practice investigation techniques and maintains the strictest confidentiality and professionalism at all times; works to obtain employee cooperation with investigations; gathers and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data necessary to conduct a thorough investigation; helps employees, supervisors and department heads settle work-related conflicts through advice and recommendation; compiles investigative reports that could be the subject of future litigation; identifies and outlines policy deficiencies, violations of the law and areas for improvement and recommends strategic changes; liaises with legal counsel and Senior level management on EEOC and other legal claims; this position is responsible for keeping complete records of investigations, including detailed description of allegations, notes on all interviews, outcome of investigations, and any action taken; travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected; perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction


Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement:

May be required to do the following: reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; typing / data entry; stepstool use; lifting 10 - 15 pounds periodically; walking up / down stairs
