The Print Production Graphic Artist will be responsible for preparing and managing electronic art files through the digital graphic workflow, ensuring they meet print production specifications. This role requires adherence to production, sustainability, and quality standards, while collaborating with various departments to support the company’s production and workflows. This position is part of an Art Department Team.
Responsibilities:
- Execute electronic art separations for customer-supplied artwork, adhering to internal job tickets and print specifications for all print types and materials. This includes applying overprints, pullbacks, and positive or reverse line requirements.
- Perform color correction and file adjustments to match supplied color targets.
- Manage multiple jobs at various stages of prepress & production.
- Collaborate with the sales team and managers to understand customer expectations and file requirements.
- Identify and report any file irregularities to the manager.
- Operate a Macintosh workstation using Adobe Creative Cloud (primarily Illustrator) and Esko Software applications.
- Adjust prepress setups based on special finishing requirements (e.g., embossing, hot stamping).
- Support the production team in troubleshooting printing issues.
- Create and distribute electronic and hard color proofs.
- Maintain organization of servers, job folders, and databases.
- Assist with external communication and file transfers.
- Complete required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Perform self-checks and proofread work by other team members according to operating procedures before releasing proofs.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (primarily Illustrator) on a Mac-based operating system.
- Demonstrated expertise in typography, layout, and graphic design.
- Comprehensive understanding of prepress artwork file preparation for print production.
- Experience with Esko or HP Indigo software is advantageous.
- Skilled in adapting approved design concepts into various sizes and formats to ensure consistency.
- Eager and capable of learning new techniques and technologies.
- Strong grasp of color theory and color correction.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented, and well-organized, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to multi-task and perform well under pressure with tight deadlines.
- Capable of managing multiple jobs simultaneously and working effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capable of working with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- Education and/or Experience: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. However, a post-secondary education with an emphasis in Graphic Design is encouraged. Alternatively, 5 years of related experience in the print industry or equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Computer Skills: The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to utilize graphic technologies and procedures to optimize departmental production throughput. Advanced computer skills are required, with proficiency in business operating systems, prepress/preflight, internet software, word processing, and spreadsheet software (including Esko, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign).
- Vision Requirements: Specific vision abilities required for this job include color vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Location: Applicants must be located in the Lexington/Nicholasville, KY area or Central Kentucky. Turner Labels is a family-owned and operated business located just outside of Lexington, KY, in Nicholasville.
