Job Description
The Special Education Coordinator will support the equitable coordination of all special education programs at Spaulding High School. The Coordinator will support and lead the school’s special education personnel in the achievement of the school’s goals. This person will work in collaboration with the Principals and leadership team at large; as well as with the District Director of Special Services. Candidates must also be able to work creatively and collaboratively to foster an environment that supports Spaulding in moving towards fulfilling school wide goals:
Cultivate and maintain a community where all students, staff and families feel safe - seen, heard, understood and respected.
Strengthen and sustain a rigorous and robust academic program that provides access and meaning for ALL students.
Create and maintain a positive school climate and culture that all Spaulding community members take pride in.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Contract: Teacher's schedule 10 days
Carries a small caseload of students with Individual Education Plans
Drive Spaulding’s mission and goals within the Special Education Department.
Support in the coordination of special education service programs grades 9 through 12 at Spaulding.
Support in managing the coordination of external partnerships and placements in collaboration as needed with Principals, Director of Special Services, and Director of Alternative Programming
Work in collaboration with the Department to identify workload and assignments of the special education team.
Maintain a direct line of communication to the building Principal and the Director of Special Services in regard to support service issues and concerns.
Work in partnership with the Principals and Director of Special Services to coordinate and/or implement in-service training workshops for regular and special education personnel as it applies to special education.
Assist in recruiting, screening, and recommending selection of special education personnel.
Plan, conduct, and/or supervise an orientation program for new special services personnel.
Serve as a consultant when appropriate to curriculum development committees.
Serve in the role of department chair on the Spaulding leadership team
Other duties as assigned by district and building administration.
Supervisory Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Principals and District Director of Special Services
Carries out supervision responsibilities of special education professional positions that are under the direction of the position in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Coordinates, supervises and implements supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Participation in interviewing and hiring of special education faculty and staff 9-12 for Spaulding.

Job Requirements
- Candidate must have, or be eligible to obtain, a Vermont educators license with the appropriate endorsement, or be eligible for a Temporary VSBPE Waiver- PROVISIONAL LICENSURE K-12 SPECIAL EDUCATORS.
For the 2025-26 academic year, applicants for a Provisional License with a special education shall possess a baccalaureate degree, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- possess any valid professional Educator license from Vermont or from another state;
- possess any expired professional Vermont Educator license or any expired professional Educator license from another state, provided the license expired no fewer than two (2) years and no longer than ten (10) years ago;
- have a major or the equivalent in the content area of the provisional endorsement sought;
- have successfully completed Praxis II licensure content assessment for special education (Test number 5354) with a passing score of at least 145 within 120 days of issuance of a provisional license.
