What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cashier position at Turners Outdoorsman?
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Welcome customers entering or leaving the store, answer their questions, help them locate items, and provide recommendations. Provide a positive customer experience with friendly, courteous service.
- Operating the point-of-sale (POS) system, processing payments, handling returns and managing customer transactions efficiently and accurately. Prove a receipt to every customer.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing cash counter, including restocking shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring product areas meet merchandising standards.
- Follow all store procedures regarding coupons, gift cards, or the purchase of specific items, such as guns or ammo.
- Collaborate with fellow team members to achieve sales targets, meet store and individual sales goals and contribute to a positive team environment. Cross-sell and introduce new products.
- Understand and actively participate in the promotion of current sales, promotions, and programs to enhance the customer experience and drive sales
- Answer customer inquiries regarding products, store policies, and services, providing knowledgeable and helpful responses to enhance satisfaction.
- Creates customer orders.
- Complete all necessary firearms paperwork in compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain a constant awareness of firearm safety.
- Support loss prevention efforts by monitoring the sales floor, report suspicious activity, and follow security policies
- Assist management with handle loading and unloading of trucks and stock merchandise deliveries.
- May fill customer fishing reels using special machines and knot-tying techniques.
- Assist in inventory management tasks, including receiving shipments, conducting stock counts, and reporting low stock or product discrepancies to management.
- Attend training seminars, including those held off-site.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Legally eligible to work in a firearm environment. - DOJ Certificate of Eligibility Required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Work experience as a Retail Cashier preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with cash register or other point-of-sale system (POS)
- Prior retail or sales experience preferred but not required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English
- High School graduate or GED certificate
- Basic PC knowledge and grasp instruction to new software programs
Nice-to- Have
• Knowledge about Hunting, Fishing, or Shooting sports is preferred.
• Prior retail and cash handling preferred.
• Previous customer service experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Responsible for loading/unloading trucks, lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Must be able to stand, sit, bend, and lift throughout the course of a scheduled shift.
- Must be able to use both hands when handling a firearm
HOURS
- Hours- varied, varied-OT may be required.
- Requests for time off may or may not be granted during black-out periods
