Children’s Program
Coordinator
Overview
The Children’s Program Coordinator is responsible for providing direct support to domestic violence observers from age’s birth - 18 and their primary care takers. The Children’s Program Coordinator will report to the Director of Domestic Violence Services.
Expectations
All Turning Point employees are expected to work toward the mission of the agency with respect and integrity, serving as ambassadors of Turning Point throughout the community. Employees must maintain the confidentiality of clients, staff and the agency, and follow all rules and agency policies.
Qualifications
1. Bi-lingual preferred
2. Two-year degree in Human Service or related field
3. At least one year experience working with children
4. Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence
Residential Children’s Program
Children
1. Provide the HERO program to children from ages 3-12 at a minimum of one weekly individual or group session.
2. Provide consultation services with mothers of children in the HERO Program.
3. Provide the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program to teens ages 13-18 at a minimum of one weekly or group session.
4. Coordinate with Case Manager and Director of Domestic Violence Services and refer client for additional services which would aid in achieving his/her goals.
5. Advocate on behalf of the client; serve as a liaison with between clients and community agencies.
6. Work with Volunteer Coordinator and volunteers on planning and scheduling children’s activities.
7. Provide childcare as needed and do individual and group activities with the children.
8. Decorate the billboards in the shelter accordingly.
9. Provide new toys for the children when they enter the shelter program (work with the moms to find out what the children like to play with).
Parents
1. Teach mothers stimulation activities for their children
2. Provide child abuse prevention information to mothers
3. Offer parenting classes for mothers residing at the shelter weekly
Non-Residential Children’s Program
1. Make referrals when and where appropriate.
2. Offer the HERO Program to children ages 3-12 within the community and at 2 high risk neighborhoods within Union County.
3. Offer the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program to teens ages 13-18.
4. Provide Teen Dating Violence in the schools as scheduled.
Staff Responsibilities
1. Meet with supervisor on a weekly basis or as needed
2. Train new personnel and volunteers regarding childcare and child assessments
3. Attend internal agency meetings, which includes but not limited to staff and weekly program team meetings.
Other
1. Network with private and community agencies
2. Meet the requirements of grants related to the program
3. Assist with crisis calls as needed
4. Assist with other agency tasks as needed
5. Maintain statistics in accordance with agency policy
6. On call as scheduled
7. Verbal and written translation/interpretation as needed
8. Provide care packages to children during intake and departure
9. Maintain playroom a. Post guidelines and modify as needed

Turning Point will provide transportation (via cab, Uber or agency vehicle) to sheltered guests and non-sheltered clients at no cost to the client with the exception of the use of an ambulance. If a client needs transportation please direct them to their case manager, or another program team member to coordinate.
If it is an emergency medical situation and the client is unconscious please call an ambulance.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
