Turning Pointe Autism Foundation creates opportunities and programs to educate individuals with autism through proven interventions to increase independence, encourage meaningful lifelong pursuits, and enrich the community at large.
Turning Pointe Autism Foundation has the CN Therapeutic Day School created to meet the specific and unique needs of students learning with autism, and Foglia Family Adult Services, which is comprised of the Compass Class Pilot Program and Employment Training Program. These services are designed for adult students to assist with communication, socially appropriate behaviors, functional living, and employment skills.
Qualifications: This is a paid work experience for individuals who need supported employment. It is an entry-level position, and no certification is required. Some experience is preferred but not required.
Location: Work to be performed at Turning Pointe Autism Foundation at 1500 W Ogden Avenue, Naperville, IL 60540 or affiliated work sites.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the division head and with the support of program staff (IBI, Job Coach, Therapist, Instructor, or similar), this Intern is gaining on-the-job experience and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned facility areas. This role provides valuable work experience while contributing to the overall functionality and environment of Turning Pointe Autism Foundation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Print, cut, laminate, or copy classroom and office materials
- Sort, organize, address, fold, stamp, and fill envelopes
- Perform wet/dry floor mopping and vacuuming
- Dust desks, tables, cabinets, office partitions, and vents or other furniture as assigned
- Empty trash cans and recycling bins, removing waste as needed
- Clean interior windows and restroom mirrors
- Assist with seasonal outdoor maintenance, including lawn care, and snow removal
- Train or walk the Facility dog
- Assist with preparing or packing coffee orders
- Make calls to potential customers for coffee orders
- Refill and replace soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies throughout the facility
- Assist with setting up and taking down furniture for special events
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned including tasks with partners like PeaceBrix, Sharing Connections, or similar
Experience & Skills:
- Ability to take instructions and follow directions effectively
- Experience working in diverse environments with various groups of people
- Adaptability to schedule changes as needed
Physical Demands:
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform essential duties
- Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment and use cleaning products in different forms (dry, liquid, powder, spray, aerosol)
- Capacity to lift and support up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, shovel, work in confined spaces, and perform twisting movements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods
- Exposure to moderate stress levels and daily interactions with students, teachers, and staff
- Potential contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-injurious, or socially inappropriate behavior
