- Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Conduct thorough assessments to understand clients' symptoms, behaviors and underlying psychological factors.
- Collaborate with clients to establish a diagnosis and formulate an individualized treatment plan.
- Individualized Treatment Planning:
- Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of each client.
- Incorporate evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), EMDR, or family-based therapy.
- Psychoeducation:
- Provide education to patients and their families about disorders, links to community support and resources, and skills to manage symptoms.
- Offer guidance on nutrition, body image, and healthy coping strategies.
- Individual and Group Therapy:
- Conduct individual therapy sessions with clients to address underlying issues, promote behavioral change, and enhance coping skills.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions to create a supportive environment for clients to share experiences, receive feedback, and build a sense of community.
- Collaborative Approach:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including dietitians, medical professionals, and psychiatrists, to ensure comprehensive care.
- Communicate and coordinate treatment plans with other healthcare providers involved in the client's care.
- Monitoring and Progress Evaluation:
- Regularly monitor and evaluate clients' progress towards treatment goals.
- Adjust treatment plans as needed and provide ongoing support to clients during their recovery journey.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Address and manage crises or emergencies related to eating disorders, ensuring client safety and appropriate intervention.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including assessment notes, treatment plans, and progress reports.
- Adhere to legal and ethical standards regarding client confidentiality and documentation.
- Continuing Education:
- Stay informed about current research, best practices, and developments in the field of eating disorders.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and training to enhance clinical skills.
- Advocacy and Outreach:
- Engage in community outreach and education to raise awareness about eating disorders and reduce stigma.
- Advocate for policies that support improved access to eating disorder treatment.
- Education: A master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is required.
- Licensing: Must be licensed as a mental health professional in Montana (Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, etc.).
- Experience: Previous experience in mental health counseling, especially in an intensive outpatient setting, is preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential. The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is also important.
- Empathy and Compassion: Given the nature of the work, a high level of empathy and compassion is crucial to connect with clients and provide effective therapeutic support.
