Job Description
The Chelonian Keeper position is to provide animal husbandry, horticulture, and general maintenance at the Turtle Survival Center (TSC) in Cross, South Carolina.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Post-secondary education in Biology or related field is an asset
- Basic computer skills including experience with the Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite are preferred.
- Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
- Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Currently hold a valid state driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Must be able to work in a hot, humid climate for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work on your feet for long periods of time and have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to accommodate a varying schedule with flexibility in mind.
Responsibilities:
- Feed and care for the turtles.
- Monitor animal health.
- Maintain cleanliness of animal areas.
- Comply with effective quarantine protocols to reduce the risk of disease transmission within the collection.
- Assist with facility maintenance, construction, and renovation.
- Maintain landscape standards and practices.
- Adhere to best practices and security guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers to address problems that may arise in a timely manner.
- Represent the Turtle Survival Alliance at volunteer and outreach events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
